Car Insurance Companies - Quick Review

20.jpg In such a packed market, it can sometimes seem like there are more car insurance companies than customers to serve, but as with anything, the best always rise to the top. Several of the biggest companies such as GEICO, State Farm, and Progressive are easily recognizable names but for some people, their knowledge of the company ends there. Here’s a brief rundown of some of the top car insurance companies in the United States.

Amica Mutual

Amica Mutual received the highest numerical scores in the highly respected J.D. Power and associates National Auto Insurance Satisfaction Study. The ratings factors included scores on policy offerings, pricing, billing and payments, and contacting the insurer. Amica received full marks on each category, so being worried about quality or service is definitely not an issue with this company.

GEICO

GEICO is another company with huge name recognition and for good reason. Not only have their advertising campaigns been slick, but they are also owned by Berkshire Hathaway and controlled by Warren Buffet, one of the smartest investors and businessmen the world has to offer. GEICO offers very competitive rates, and their famous ad catchphrase “see how Geico can save you 15% or more on car insurance” is something that they can live up to. If you want to save a couple bucks with a recognized and respected company, GEICO is definitely the way to go.

Allstate

Allstate insurance is an auto insurance company with a focus on providing great customer service and loyalty. Many of their customers qualify for their programs that include accident forgiveness to keep premium rates low, safe driving bonuses every six months, and new car replacement within three model years. When you’re one of the largest car insurance companies (commanding 18% of the auto insurance market in the United States), it’s easy to put some of that money back towards the customer.

Progressive

Progressive is a car insurance company that focuses on beating the competition. Many of it’s marketing campaigns compare prices between a Progressive car insurance quote and the prices of their competitors and as a result, you can get a good quote from them simply by finding a better one from another insurance company. Another unique feature of Progressive is their Pay As You Drive insurance, often called usage based insurance. This voluntary program allows customers to share their driving information with Progressive, who then offer discounts to people who drive less, or drive in safer ways.

Liberty Mutual

Liberty Mutual is the third largest insurer of personal property as of 2010 and is a huge name on the auto insurance market. Liberty’s car insurance policies are very standard but what makes them stand out is the features and policies that they offer such as repairs for both minor and major auto problems (windshield repair comes to mind). This program is called the Total Liberty Care Facilities and is definitely a strong point of the company.

Since auto insurance is such a huge market, these names reflect the tip of the iceberg for car insurance companies, but they should give you a good head start on getting familiar with a variety of the more recognizable names.
